Depth
A shallow pot intensifies the image but dries and heats faster. Horticultural health limits the design idea.

Surface
Unglazed pots often support conifers; glaze can echo flowers and foliage. This is design tradition, not botanical law.

Clay and frost
Porosity, firing temperature, wall thickness and drainage affect water and frost resistance more than a place name.
