Feeding bonsai

Feed an actively growing tree according to species, development goal and substrate. Never use fertiliser as emergency medicine for damaged roots.

Feeding bonsai
01 / Method

Fertiliser supports growth. It does not create health.

A weakened tree usually needs stable light, correct moisture and time—not simultaneous pruning, feeding and repotting.

01

Start with activity

Roots need oxygen, suitable temperature and moisture before nutrients can be used. A dormant or failing tree does not become healthy through a stronger dose.

02

Match the development goal

A young tree building trunk and branches is fed differently from a refined tree whose internodes and leaves must remain compact.

03

Read concentration and salts

Follow the product analysis, account for organic and mineral sources together, and occasionally flush freely draining substrate with suitable water.

02 / Triage

Safe sequence

Check the species and season.

Read moisture below the surface.

Stabilise light, temperature and wind.

Change one variable, then observe.
